E - Coli
Escherichia coli (E.coli), Enterobacteriaceae familyasının bir üyesi olup memeli canlıların kalın bağırsağında yaşadığı için bu adı alan bir bakteri türüdür. E.coli çubuk şeklindedir ve gram negatif bakteri olduğundan endospor oluşturmaz. E. coli yaklaşık 2,0 μm uzunluğunda ve 0,5 μm çapındadır.
Güvenli suya erişim için ilk hedef E.coli enfeksiyonlarının önlenmesidir. Gıda ürünlerinden kaynaklanan enfeksiyonları önlemeye yönelik önlemler, uygun saklama ve pişirme sıcaklıklarını içerir. Avrupa'daki vakalar genelde kirli suların bulunduğu İrlanda, Norveç, İsveç, Malta ve Danimarka'da görülmüştür.
